Leaving School

My child (18) is leaving school sometime in May/June to take a year out
at work before going to Uni. I receive CTC and WTC which gives me,
added to wages a liveable income. When would the actual date of leaving
officially be? End of term? or after the exams have been taken? or when
the exam results come in?
To see if I will be entitled in the future I have filled out the online
"Do I Qualify?" for WTC and as a low wage earner ( £9000 a year full
time work) and it would appear I am entitled to approx £20 a week in WTC
however there is nowhere in the online form that I can see where I can
put any earnings my child may have or any "housekeeping" she may give
me. Will her wages count against me?

The school leaving date is only for 15 / 16 year olds as far as I can
see - 18 year olds just leave school when they leave school, eg after
exams or if they decide to drop out of school. Certainly when I finished
my A levels I just signed on the following day. Things may have changed
since then though. In any case, the leaving date for 16 year olds is the
last Friday in June, so that is pretty much when your daughter finishes
her exams anyway.

She should be able to sign on, the restrictions of not being able to do
so seemingly only apply to 16 or 17 year olds.

Your tax credits are not affected by her wages or any board /
housekeeping money she gives you though any Housing or Council Tax
Benefit you may receive would be affected.

Don't forget that any Child Benefit will also stop though the rules for
that are slightly different to tax credits.
