Looking for an accountant

I run a small business and would like to find an accountant.

I was wondering what should I look for, what kind of questions should I ask
when interviewing them. What should I expect to pay one to set up my books
and do my taxes?

Please respond to the NG only.

Thank you in advance for any help.

get recommendations from other business owners. Ask the accountant about
their experience with other area businesses and get references. Find out
what software they use and if they would be willing to help you initially
set up the books so you can do most of it yourself. A lot of small
businesses use an accounting program like quickbooks, peachtree or MYOB to
run their own checks and deposts (sales) and let the accountant turn it into
a set of monthly financial reports.

Thanks John,

I would guess that the only way to really find out if the person is ethical
is by what others think of them. I will ask around and see what I can find.

Thanks again.

I knew a guy some years back that ran a branch office and hired that
way. Funny thing was, it worked rather well. Think he was just
lucky.
