Lost Company file

Forgive me if this has been answered. I've search for an hour and maybe I'm
not using the right key words. My dilemma>>

I had my main company file open working on an invoice. After I was done with
that invoice I decided I needed to back up my data so I “closed†the company
file. Since this was my first backup, I wanted make a copy of that file on a
back up drive, then reopen it and use the backup utility for redundancy.
Much to my surprise there were NO files in “My Documents \ Small Business
Accounting \ Companiesâ€. I searched the hard drive for any *.sbc files and
none could be found. Not even the sample companies! Is there something
simple I’m over looking? I’ve completely lost my main file, and my mind!

Hi

I don't know where your sbc-file might be but here's what you should do:

The sbc-files are just shortcuts to the actual database where the data is.
They are just a convenient way to open a company. The sbc-files are named
"company-files" which might sound confusing in some cases since they really
are just "shortcuts-to-company-data".

Anyway then you can always create a new sbc-file which points to the
database.
To do that you can go to the Data Tools which has a "Rebuild" button - this
will show you a list of databases on the computer and you simply select one
and click Ok. Then you will get a new sbc-file which points to that
database.

Jesper,
Just wanted to add here,
If using an SBS server in any capacity either hosted by SBS or inside the
domain you get an error. Try opening a company that has been restored to a
laptop while at home or on the road. If the company file is not opened while
on the domain (either joined or not) You get this error:
Microsoft Office Accounting cannot open the company because of a connection
error.
There is no rebuild option since no data files are accessable. The only
option is to restore a backup copy.
