lost payee(customer) name

I use M2003 H&B and recently it just lost a payee (customer) name -at least
on the payee & customer lists. It still finds the customer/payee info -
details about the customer, transactions, etc. when I right-click on the
name in the invoice listing and 'go to payee' . But I can't create an
invoice for the customer because the name is not on the customer list, and
they don't appear on my regular payee list anymore either. Can't add the
customer back in because Money says the payee/customer already exists. I
don't want to add the same customer with a different name because then I
won't be able to get accurate reports on transactions. I tried to change
the customer name in the details window but it didn't do any good.
Further - I can't delete the customer because it doesn't exist on any list
to delete it from.

this is too weird...please help

Here's something to try that works with categories and payees. Go ahead and
create the invoice using a new payee name. Then go to the customer list and
highlight the new payee and click rename. Type the name of the old payee
for the new name and click ok. You should get an error that the payee
already exists and would you like to change all transactions with that payee
name to the old name. If you click Yes, the payees should be combined so
that you no longer have the new one that you created. Hopefully this also
allows the old one to be viewable on the list.

Hi,

I tried it but it didn't work - Just told me that a payee already exists
with that name and didn't give me an option to change all transactions to
that name. The new name is viewable on the list, but still not the old one.
