Massachusetts exempt capital gains on munis

Each year my Fidelity Mass muni fund reports a percentage of
its capital gain distributions which may be exempt from Mass
tax. Any idea what kind of transactions generate such
(potentially) exempt gains? Obviously I'm interested in
whether any of the munis that I hold directly might enjoy
similar treatment...

But what exactly do they exempt? All capital gains?
I can't find a reference to anything other than the
obvious interest exemption.
