Money 2006 Install on New Computer

I just purchased a new computer with Windows XP, and installed my MS Money
2006 on the computer. The install worked, but each time I try to restore the
backup information, the program first tells me it doesn't recognize my
password and after the third attempt it opens the program. When I try to
restore the backup files, and select the files to restore, I get an error
message that "microsoft money has encountered a problem and needs to shut
down." After several attempts at this, MS Money would not recognize my
password, and I finally uninstalled the program.
What do I need to do to install the program and restore my data?

Those error messages usually mean that the data file was actually created by
a version of Money newer than the Money version (2006) you installed. Did
you by any chance use a trial of Money 2007 or Money Plus and use that to
create your data file?

The software is Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe and I purchased the software and
installed it from the CD. I entered all of my data in this program, and did
not transfer or import any data from another version. I purchased the
software in 2006, so I don't think the 2007 was availabe yet. But I had
originally been using an older version of MS Money, and was trying to import
my data into the new program, and I was never able to get it to work. I
finally gave up and purchased the 2006 software and started entering my data
in 2006. I don't recall if I tried using the newer version in that process
or if I just purchased the 2006 program and started there. It was a very
frustrating situation, and I honestly don't remember whether or not I
downloaded a trial version. Is there a way for me to find out if that is the
problem? Or is there a way to do the backup in a different format similar to
Word saving a file in a previous version?

Try opening the sample file, or creating a new file - then doing an update -
As Bill mentioned, the version of money on your computer may be older than
the one your file was created with, even though it's all Money 2006. Let
it go through the updates and get all patches with the sample/new file, then
try your file. Not sure if this is your problem or not, but it's worth a
try.

I created a new file, but I'm not sure how to do an update. Do you mean that
I need to download the most current version of Money from the website? I
can't find a link in either my software program or on the website to receive
updates and patches. Can you provide a link to that? Thaniks so much for
your help.
