Money no authentication version coming?

It's no small surprise that I've noticed many people on here talking about
the demise of Microsoft Money. I've read in several posts that Microsoft is
planning to come out with a version that doesn't require online
authentication so that it can be used as a stand-alone, offline application
indefinitely, or at least until some future OS conflict breaks it in the
distant future.

Does anyone actually know anything about this product? Is it going to be a
product for sale? A free download? A patch to the existing final version that
will remove the online authentication process? I was just curious about that
and, since I can't find many references to this upcoming app anywhere but
here, I thought I'd ask.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
- Byron Followell

We don't know exactly what form this will take. Bet it's safe to say it
won't be a product for sale and will somehow be a download. Whether it will
be the entire product, freely available, or will require authentication of a
prior install of a licensed/paid version or will be a patch or what remains
to be seen. Somebody knows. They haven't told anybody who can or will post
the info here.

Why do we need this anyway ? Can't we just use our current expired program
without the online features ? What am I missing ? Thanks

Nothing unless you are using Money 2005, Money 2007 or Money Plus.
For those, there would be a problem reinstalling once the servers
are off.

Thanks

My question is are they going to notify registered users when this
version is released?

I don't know. I would not count on it. If you don't want to check
this group or the FAQ periodically, at least mark your calendar to
make sure you get it before the end of January 2011-- and leave some
margin too.

This is what Microsoft has posted on the Money site this week...

"Update (11/02/09): Microsoft has announced plans to release versions of
Money Plus Deluxe and Money Plus Home & Business that will not require online
activation. This version will allow you to keep your Money files and
transactional history but will not allow access to online services or premium
services. Availability is expected prior to the end of online activation on
Jan. 31, 2011. Check back here for additional information or look for future
announcements in Money Plus."

Back in August they said "later this year", so they just bought themselves
another year and I've not heard any other details as to how the release will
be distributed.
