under £1000, depending how much stuff you have and whether you go with

Pickfords, someone smaller, or complete cowboys.

I'm moving for the first time and will get an estimate (hopefully
free!) from Pickfords - can anyone recommend a good second and third
firm I could get estimates from, please?

You'd be advised to ask locals(especially if you are not moving very far),
IME local firms can offer as good service much cheaper than nationals like
pickfords, but local recommendation is always a good idea to avoid the
cowboys.
