need help in analyzing a common-size Balance sheet and income statement

I need help analyzing the common-size income statement and balance sheet for a UK-based company (Whitbread) which falls under the hospitality and leisure industry

I am having difficulties in analyzing and linking the data, please help!

P.S I have attached both the income statement and balance sheet

Be aware that I'm from the US, so my knowledge may not be completely relevant.

The balance sheet seems a little straight forward, they just have taken each account as a percentage of total assets... What exactly are you trying to glean from it?

The income statement, however is going over my head, unfortunately. I'm not sure exactly what is going on. Hopefully someone will happen along and enlighten us both.
