Hi.

A New York family member passed away recently and we later learned that 2003 was the last year the family income taxes were filed.

After submitting a few 4506T's, we have the transcripts for 2004 to 2012.

Now we don't know what our next step is. No IRS office within a ninety minute drive has a tax preparation specialist.

We're not even sure if we *have* to file for all those years. We do know, though, that one year they cashed in a mid five figure investment.

Is there someplace online where the requirements for filing, year by year, is listed?

Also, if anyone has any advice, it'd be welcome :)

Thanks!

GD

If someone is deceased, I'd imagine that it's a closed SSN now as far as the IRS is concerned. I'd leave it alone. Nothing better than a tax notice coming for someone who really 'can't pay it'. :D
