no catagories downloaded with QCC data

Folks,

About 6 months ago both my hard drive and secondary backup crashed.
I tried tried to recover, but I lost about a year's worth of Quicken 2001 data.

Until then, my Quicken Credit Card (QCC) payments would download including the
appropriate categories (groceries, auto fuel, etc.). It was a nice
way to track how I was spending my money.

After procrastinating for a while I finally got a new computer
with two good hard drives. I installed a new copy of Quicken 2003
and set up new accounts for everything, including my QCC.

Last week I downloaded all of the transactions that have been queued up
since my crash-- but now all of the category fields are empty. This
continues to happen with new transactions over the next several days.

What happened? Has Citibank stopped including the category fields?
Did I do something incorrectly while setting up my account? Is this a
new feature of Q03?

I am perplexed and need your advice!

Your FI was not assigning the categories, Quicken was, based on history.
Quicken keeps track of the categories you assign; and based on the payees,
will automatically assign these same categories to future downloaded
transactions. You can override any category as you accept the transactions
into your register.

When you re-initialized your Quicken environment, you lost this history, so
you need to assign your categories manually for a while until it has been
re-established to your satisfaction.

I don't think this is correct for Quicken Credit Card. At least they
used to assign categories to each transaction. That's the reason I got
the card. Occasionally their choice was innacurate and I would change it,
but they would try to make a logical choice.

You may be thinking of Quicken's "auto categorize" feature, which
would, probably, be most likely to work with credit credit accounts.
I do not know of any specific reason why this would not be working in
Q2003 (but I use Q2002), though I confess, I never thought it of much
use myself.

You can read briefly about Quicken's category assignments here:

Nope. This is specific to Quicken Credit Card. If you go to the demo at
at the QCC website you will see that it automatically downloads the categories
for each transaction. This is why I started using QCC.
