Non refundable airline tickets

Hi! Just trying to find out if there is a general principle that the expense related to purchase of non refundable airline tickets can be recognized at purchase rather than when the trip is taken. It seems a reasonable treatment if the tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Even if they can be refunded, it's a reasonable treatment to just expense them at time of purchase regardless of which period the actual trip takes place in.
