NY it-201-att and sales tax

When filling out form "NY it-201-att", can you include the
sales tax and real estate tax paid from "1040, sched a, line
5", when figuring your itemized deduction for NY State. It
seems odd that NY State would let you deduct sales tax but
not the income tax. Usually I use the standard deduction,
but with college expenses abound, I want to try itemized. It
a little more work, but it might be better than taking the
college credit. I've read the instructions a few times, but
they are not clear to me. Also, the worksheets can drive you
nuts.

Thanks,
Joe
