Odd Balancing Issue

    I have an odd issue when trying to balance my account.

    On the accounts list, my balance shows as £311.45
    When I go into that account, the ending balance is shown as £309.58

    A difference of £1.87.

    My bank balance for this A&L account is £311.45. All transactions are
    downloaded from Alliance and Leicester.

    I spotted this mistake when I tried to balance the account.

    When I got the Balancing program to record the £1.87 as a Misc Expense, I
    still have the difference between the Account List balance and the Ending
    Balance in the account.

    I cleared my cookies/temp files and ran Salv.exe on my money file (Level 2)
    which "Found no errors".

    Any idea's how to fix this error (or shall I just live with it)?

    I would delete the £1.87 Misc Expense that you created - that is only likely
    to cause confusion in the future.

    Go into your A&L account and change the 'View' to 'unreconciled' - you may
    then find an old entry that is incorrectly recorded.
    You could try searching for transactions for £1.87 but since the
    'difference' could be due to 2 or more transactions that sum to £1.87 this
    technique is NOT reliable.

    You don't say WHEN you first noticed this discrepancy - do you have old
    backups that might show that it is an old problem / confirm that it is a new

    I usually compare my paper statement with the version in Money. I
    usually find I have made a mistake in entering a transaction or two.

    I have found in the past that A&L OFX downloads sometimes set the
    unique reference incorrectly so that Money thinks the same transaction
    is two different ones. I have confirmed this by examining the
    contents of the OFX files.

    Thanks for the response everyone.

    My last balance was in January. I have deleted the £1.87 entered as a Misc
    Expense by the reconciliation program.

    I have tried to check for errors against my online statement for each month.

    I think the main issue which I need to emphasise is the discrepancy between
    the balance on the Account List, vs. when you go into the account. So, on
    the main Account List, I have say a balance of £311.45 but when I go into
    that account, it is £309.58. Considering I have been using Microsoft Money
    since 1988, I don't understand how anything I can do with transaction
    entries can cause this phenomenon.

    Sorry, another update.

    I don't have any transactions for £1.87 (or £3.74, i.e. 1.87*2) in my

    I don't have any uncategorised transactions (i.e. transactions downloaded
    but not allocated a category), but this wouldn't cause the discrepancy
    between the account list balance and the end balance in the account.

    I checked all my Split transactions (as occasionally I get balancing issues
    on my Payslip where TAX and NI changes from month to month), however these
    are all OK (I even edited, amended, and re-corrected all my Payslip's in the
    account register).
