Odd problem

P

Patrick Simonds

The balance in the Account list for my Pending Account does not agree with
the balance that is displayed when the account is selected.

The Account list shows a balance of $38.50
The Account balanced when you open the account is $5.00
Actual account balance is $5.00

So how can I fix this??

I also noticed that one of my other accounts is wrong. I should mention
that Money(2004) did crash during the last download.

File->RepairMoneyFile->QuickFileRepair

If still no joy, try this one posted by Mark:

:1. Make a copy of your Money data file.
:2. Open that copy.
:3. Delete ALL transactions in the problem account
:4. Export that account as a QIF file
:5. Examine the QIF file in Notepad.
:6. If it is not empty and shows one or more transactions,
: then those are likely the culprits.
:7. Note the details of those transactions
:8. Open up your original file
:9. Import the QIF file
:10. This should reveal the hidden transactions. So you
:can now do with them
:as you wish (Delete, modify, etc).' - Mark

To delete transactions in step 3, Clear the Tools->Options->Editing
Confirmation Options boxes. Sort the cash transactions register by
increasing date. Select the bottom transaction and click these
keys in rotation: Delete, Enter, <cursorUpArrow>. Listen for the
audible sound. If the audible sound changes, look at the screen.
You might have to deal with a customized allocation transaction.
Continue. I was able to do about 50 per minute, but I needed to
switch hands after a while. I then searched for a keyboard macro
program.

I tried this but the problem still exists. As a mater of fact after deleting
all transaction, deleting the opening balance, the account list still shows
a $33.50 balance.

OK. Did you continue with step 4 and above?

Carl thank you for your time!

I completed steps 1 through 9. Now I assume that when you said "Open up
your original file" you meant the original file as it existed prior to
deleting ALL transactions. When I did this I was in fact able to see the
hidden transactions. Now the error amount was double what it was before I
imported the QIF file. I assume that this is true because the hidden
transactions still existed in the original file and by importing the QIF
file I added an additional (non-hidden) copy of the transaction.

Now when I delete the now visible transaction the amount still does not go
back to what it should be. Again I am assuming that is because the original
hidden transactions still exist.

Forgive my ignorance but I am sure there is something I have missed.

Sorry this sentence should have said:

Did you do the File->Import as a "statement from my bank"? That is
what I think it needs to be.

If so, I would suggest you contact Microsoft support directly. If
not, try it that way so that matching can occur.

I can not tell you how much I appreciate that you were willing to share your
time and knowledge with me (and hopefully anyone else who may experience
this). You are correct in that I had been using Import as a new or recovered
account. As soon as I used Import as a "statement from my bank, everything
was back to normal.

Again thanks for your time and knowledge.
