Overpayment Recovery

Hello,

This morning I recieved a letter telling me that I have been overpaid on my
income based jobseeker's allowance, and the DWP want it back it is roughly
£214.00.

They have stated this because of my savings, there is just one slight
problem there, I don't have any savings unless you count £10.00 in a bank
account!

The period that they are saying that I was overpaid is from December 2004 to
June 2005, what I would like to know is why after all of this time that they
suddenley discover an overpayment, I certainley cannot remember that far
back!, the question is can I dispute this?

TIA.

Hi ,

did you have any savings during the period Dec 2004 - June 2005 ? remember
your allowed to have up to £3000 in savings before it affects income based
JSA, if not get bank statements to prove em wrong and appeal

HTH.

Do not have any savings only if they are counting £10.00!, and also if they
have made the mistake of overpaying me, why should I have to correct their
mistake by returning the money, I cannot possibly see how I have been
overpaid and I notice that they have left it this long, as I don't keep bank
statements for more than 2 months.

I will ask them on monday morning what is going on, thanks for replying.

Apparently they the "Government" on behalf of the DWP are sending Begging
Letters to all pensioners begging them to return the said Overpayment, that
you speak about, but in an article in the "Times Newspaper" they are
pleading not enforcing this Overpayment.......

I have phoned the DWP this morning, and they have told me to return the
letter so they can re-calculate my figure! probably think of a number double
it add the first number you thought of, and we will settle for that!!

You have one calander month to appeal, from the date the decision that
you had been overpaid was made.

Should be interesting to see their evidence..

Could make good reading, as today I recieved bank statements from my bank
for which I had to pay for!, I have made copies and they are on their way to
the DWP.
