Some features which you may or may not care about are enabled. Some features
which may scare you are enabled, but you needn't use them.

Access to your file is now authenticated in a way that enables password
recovery, if you really feel the need for authenticated access.

Your ability to use the file is now dependent, to a degree, on availability
of an Internet connection to MS Money Passport servers.

Problems in the MSN Money Passport realm can absolutely prevent you from
accessing your own data, as happened late last summer for several days.

I should add that M05 couples Passport use to a feature you may want (Yodlee
access to online account data) to a feature that may scare you (storing lots
of your account data for all of your accounts on MSN web servers).

To phrase Dick's answer another way. If you want to run Money on a single
PC, only access Money from that PC also you only want to download statements
directly from your bank then steer clear of Passport.

Ms money 2005 seems to enforce use of passport to setup any new accounts for
on-line access. I ran into this while setting up my installation to gather
data from my paypal account. I would prefer not to do so, since it seems to
want to upload my financial details to msn.com, which does not fit my comfort
level too well. :)Any way around this?

Thanks,
-Ravi

1) Use a financial institution that provides direct downloads rather than
Yodlee. 2) Skip the download thing entirely.

As Dick states, use a bank that supports direct banking without Passport. If
setting up an online bank requires a passport, then the bank doesn't support
direct banking. If, in that case, you still want to avoid passport, use the
bank's web site as a source to download transactions. Most banks offer
'active statement' or QIF downloads, if they offer web banking at all.

To create a new file without a Passport, click Decline during the
initial setup.

To remove a Passport from a file, File->PasswordManager.

For Paypal, log in to their website and download a QIF file.
