PAYE & sub contractor inspection

I am after some advice.

I am a bookkeeper and a client of mine has received a letter from the
Revenue advising them that they want to carry out the above. The client has
asked me to be present and would like to know what to expect, what kind of
things are they likely to check etc.

Thanks

Best regards,

You client should have received a list of records etc HMRC will expect you
to have available for inspection (obviously some won't be relevant).

They're likely to check status (eg have you treated people as self-employed,
who should have been done under PAYE), that you are keeping correct records,
doing the sums right, implementing any tax code notices correctly, remitting
the right amounts etc. If you're involved with CIS, then all the usual,
plus whether you've got all the assorted vouchers, details of Certs / Cards
/ NINOs etc, and have processed and remitted in correct months.

If there are any serious problems, you and/or client are probably already
aware of them...!
