PLEASE Help I'm running out of time

A newbie question...I can't get labor costs to appear on job costing
reports..

In preferences I have "Full Payroll" selected (even though I use an external
3rd party service)
I set up a test customer:job, create two service items (zero cost, zero
price), create a payroll item with an hourly rate and assign the payroll
item to an employee. I then enter hours for the employee on the weekly
timesheet, assigning the work to the service items and payroll types. I
treat the time entered as non-billable. I am expecting to see some labor
costs appear on any of the job cost reports yet I see NOTHING other than
material purchases. HOW do I get to see my actual labor costs for a job ???
