Please help! Printing trouble with Money

Hello,

Yesterday I wrote that I was having trouble printing a partial check using
Money 2005. I also have one copy of Money 2006 on my Notebook computer. Even
though I don’t want to use money 2006 I tried printing a partial check with
it. I am getting the same results as I am getting with 2005.

I am putting the print check settings on:

Paper fed: Along feeder side
Paper inserted: Right edge first

But the check continues to print on the left side in both copies of money.
I have money 2005 on my Notebook and my Desktop computers and they both print
the check on the left side even though I selected the right side. I rather be
able to use Money 2005 because I own 2 copies; one on my notebook and one on
my desktop computers. I always use my notebook computer unless something goes
wrong with it so it is nice to know I could access my accounts on the desktop
if need be. This is why I prefer to use 2005.

My operating system is Vista Home Premium and my printer is an All In One;
Epson Stylus CX6400. The print driver for my printer was installed from the
Windows Vista site because the Epson software does not work with Vista.

I need to print out my checks to pay my bills. I have spinal trouble so my
handwriting is terrible so I rather use money to print out my checks. Can
someone please help me?

Thank you,
James

I am afraid that this is a problem that always hits early adopters of new
versions of Windows. The equipment manufacturers put producing Vista drivers
for "old" kit at the bottom of their priority list and concentrate on the
drivers for their newest and shiniest kit. I am sure they will get around to
it but all I can suggest is that you keep visiting the Epson site to check
for Vista drivers that work with your printer.

There have been many similar cries for help along these lines for various
graphics cards where the likes of Nvidia haven't done any drivers except for
their newest cards.

Hello Bob,

Thank you for replying to my question. I was afraid this was the answer I
would get to my problem, but kept hoping there was a solution. Thanks for
taking the time to let me know there is nothing I can do.

I hope you have a great week!

Take care,
James

You might try printing to a PDF file from Money and printing that
PDF file to the check. CutePDF and PDF995 have free versions that
create a virtual printer that actually produces a PDF file.

I don't know if this will help, or even if those programs run on
Vista, but I thought you might want to give it a try. I would print
the PDF file to plain paper rather than check stock until you think
it is going to work ok.

Hi Cal,

I will give what you told me a try and then report what happens back here
in case anyone else has a problem. I just want to let you know it will be a
few hours though. I have a couple of things I have to take care of before I
can try it out.

I have been using plain paper instead of check paper for a while now
trying to solve my printing problem. That is how I found out the check was
printing on the left side instead of the right side. My first thought was
that I ran out of ink and the printer software was off. I think I wasted
about a 1/3 of cartridge with that one. Which is not good with the price of
ink now a days.

Also I am not too sure what you are asking me to try. I am just going to do
a search on CutePDF and PDF995 and go from there.

Thank you for your idea and I will let you know how I make out.

Take care,
James

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I will need that leader sheet in
order to print a single check in normal mode. I know from using Quicken
before Money that my printer will feed the check crooked if I try do print it
in portrait mode. If Cal's idea does not work then that is what I will have
to do. Thanks again for writing and I hope you have a great week.

Take care,
James

Hello Cal,

Sorry I did not write you back last night. I just now had time to try
CutePDF. It installed fine on my computer under Vista Operating System.
CutePDF also now offers support for people using Vista. I printed one check
to CutePDF using Money 2006 and the setting for printing the check along the
right edge. The check showed up in the program just like it would have if you
printed one check with a full sheet except the check was too far to the left
across the top.

I guess I could have changed the page settings in CutePDF to get the check
close, but that would have taken a lot of work. I guess I will order a Leader
Sheet from Deluxe and print out the checks the way Mark suggest to do it. I
wrote Epson last night telling them my problem and asked when they thing they
would get software out for this printer to be used with Vista. I will post
their reply here if you think it is necessary.

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciated it. I at least found out
about some free new software that I think I will need in the future. BTW; do
you know a good program that works with your scanner so you can scan a
document into your computer in PDF format? I know if you purchase Adobe
Reader that will do it, but I think that is like a $400.00 program. I am on
disability income and cannot afford that kind of money for software.

Take care,
James

It's also a nice ink saver for proofing before you commit to paper.

You could let your scanner software or the Windows scanner software
produce whatever format it likes. Then "print" that scan to the
CutePDF printer.

Hi Cal,

I didn't even think how CutePDF could save on ink and paper. It sure would
have saved me a lot yesterday. Especially since I changed out a black ink
cartridge that was not empty yet yesterday. Thanks for bring it to my
attention.

My software wants to scan everything into a jpg format. Will CutePDF
convert jpg to PDF? If so; I really want to thank you for telling me about
the program. This will save me a lot of time and headaches in the future.

Have a good day, James

The Windows Fax and Picture Viewer or IE will view a .jpg. From each
of those you could "print".

Hi Cal,

I was just trying CutePDF with a document saved in jpg format I had saved
on my hard drive when I received an email saying you wrote a reply. I opened
the file using Windows Fax & Picture View, like you suggested, and printed it
to CutePDF. It worked perfectly. I did not send it to my printer from
CutePDF, but I opened the file in Adobe Reader ok and it looked just like it
did in the original file. I am sure it will print just fine.

I can't thank you enough for telling me about CutePDF. I wish I knew about
it for over a year now. It would have saved me hours of work and a lot of
frustration. It makes this little printing problem I have now well worth
having to learn about this software. It makes me wonder how many other
software programs are out there that could help me like this one.)

You are a very nice and helpful person! Thanks again, James
