A customers single RMS station died, and you guessed it, they lost their
Product Key and have no backups of their database. I managed to take the hard
drive out and install it in a PC with like hardware and it booted up, so I
can start RMS and backup their hard database, but is there anyway to get the
key? Perhaps hidden in the registry?

    Thanks in advance

    RMS version 2.0.0108
    Windows Vista x86
    SQL Express 2005

Their RMS reseller should have kept a copy of the license key and delivered
the original licenses to the end user. If the software was purchased legally
and they registered the installation, MS may be able to retrieve it. I don't
believe the keys are saved in the registry.

  3. Phil,

    You can see the PID, one just can't decipher it;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Store Operations POS\Registration

One needs to call MBS Sales and they will send a new card out to you (800) 456-0025

  4. Convoluted,

We don't keep copies of the keys, hell in most cases we don't even see the cards as they are shipped directly to the end-user.

We do suggest that they put the last 5 digits in the Register description so they know what key goes where and we suggest that they put the cards in their safe for safe-keeping.

  5. I just had to replace a lost key a month ago. My support plan was expired
and so it cost me $75 for a new key for an HQ client.
