Query on Child Tax Credit

If I apply for Childrens Tax Credit now is it backdated to the start
of this Financial year?

Yes, it can be backdated 3 months so that's before the start of this tax year.

For the last year, I got the backdated Credit as a lump sum. Then I
received continuous payments every 4 weeks. I shouldn't things have changed
this year.

Fred - did you get a chq in the post for the backdated sum or paid
straight into your bank account?

It was paid as a lump sum into me account. IIRC the tax credit statement
had the details of what was going to be paid and when.
BTW I am talking about 2003/4 and this year may be different though can't
see why.
