When you try to apply the update, there is a screen that pops up asking
if you want to backup your data. The problem is that the popup backup
screen is blocked by the update screen and you can't see it. If you
minimize the update screen, you can then see the backup screen and then
check the appropriate block on the backup screen and then the update
will proceed.

This is for XP with SP2 installed.

Did not see any mention of sp2 for update! Where did you find that?

That is SP2 for XP. I downloaded that about a month ago.

I understand that is sp2 for xp, but why would that affect successful
download/installation of qkn r2 & ability to open qkn? That is what has
failed -- have deliberately decided to postpone download of win xp sp2.
BTW did not receive patching engine error & qkn did not show up in the
task manager on attempting to open after installation of update.

I don't know why this is happening. I was just pointing out what
operating system I have. It may have nothing to do with the version of
Windows anyone is using but I thought it would be helpful to mention
what system I am using in case it is relavant.

I have Win XP SP2 and I upgraded with no problem. When the upgrade banner
appeared, Quicken's Backup/Close banner also appeared. I elected to close
Quicken first (had already backed up) and then told the upgrade to proceed.
The upgrade completed and offer to reopen Quicken. Reopened Quicken,
checked Help/About and it referred to R2.
Hope that helps.

Sorry, but I find this explanation confusing. What did/did not work?
XP SP2. Or Quick 2005 R2 being installed on an XP SP 2 system.

SP 2 or Q2005 R2?

I have the same issue. I will be calling Intuit tech support
tomorrow. If I get an answer that fixes the problem, I will post it
here.

I have Q2005 H&B. Help: About Quicken shows R1. How do you get R2? I was
under the impression that Quicken updates would appear when you download
transactions. I've been downloading transactions. No Quicken update. :-(

Did finally get the update installed; downloaded it from the intuit web
site then closed all processes running in background in task manager >
owner (always close antivirus sw pre doing anything w/q). R2
successfully installed & qkn opens w/no problem -- but -- now my amex
data won't download as it insists I have changed acc't info (did
download prior to installing r2 as instructed). Will try
deactivating/reactivating & see if that works, just waiting till I have
more patience to fool w/this bloody app. Anyone else seeing problems
w/amex & 2005 r2?

I just downloaded my transactions from AMEX and it worked just fine after
the R2 update. Not sure what your situation might be. Good Luck!

Backdoor Stuff:

Go to link. http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/updates/index.html
Then click on 2004.

Then go to your address bar and replace the 4 with a 5 which should make the
link look like below

http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/updates/qkn_updates_q2005manup.html

then hit enter and you are there.

Looks like Intuit withdrew it but left the page available for support
purposes.

You are right. Quicken 2005 was there this morning when I got it. I hope
that doesn't mean there is a serious problem with it.

And if you have a corporate Amex, you may find that you are now able to download
those transactions as well...
