does anyone know what fixes there are in Q05 deluxe vs 04 or 03? I see
that they say compatible with windows xp so I assume they fixed the issues
with it not working in limited user accounts. What else?

Your question is a good one! QB04 changed things around and added
confusing features such as the "placeholder" transactions. It broke
things such as the date it assumes when you reconcile an account. So
now they want to sell us a new version to fix the bugs they introduced.

I'm fighting back by skipping a few years. I'll take my bugs by the
bushel full but less often.

I hear you. I bought Q02, and now Q05, I think every 3 years is "good
enough" with Quicken. Q08 here I come! :)

I'm going to chime in here too since I just upgraded from Q02 to Q05. I'm
actually very happy with this. The retirement planner never worked for me in
Q02, setting up automatic downloading wouldn't work from Hewitt Associates,
categories wouldn't be filled in on items I do via automatic bill pay at my
bank, etc. All these work great (finally) with Q05. And they've made setting
up new accounts with online access pretty easy.

I haven't explored the reporting and budget categories yet ... and I'm trying to
get used to the new UI. But I like the "every 3 years" bit. It works for me
(*grin*).

Q02 here I stay! I don't seen any compelling reasons to upgrade as long as
online access works.

To Q4 Premier H&B's credit, it was superior to Q2 Dlx in reporting the value
of my investment account. Q2 didn't run the "cash" figure into the total;
Q4 does this nicely.

It's too bad that Q4 has a big flaw, for me, in its "Exclude Internal
Transfers," for the Income/Expense report. This worked in Q2.

I do agree with you, and teh only reason I upgraded to Q05 from Q02 was that I
had problems with 2 (of 8) accounts that online access did not work. And the
retirement planner was broken. (Actually it was broken in the previous version
of Quicken and when I upgraded to 2002, it was still broken (*sigh*).

But the Q05 upgrade fixed both.
