QW2004 nice feature

I've criticized the way investment transactions are entered in the new
version, but after a couple of weeks' use I've come to like it after
all. I suspect new users unfamiliar with previous versions will too.

Instead of entering into the investment account register directly, you
open an Enter Transactions window. There's a long pull-down list of
transaction types, and the data entry boxes in the window change to
accommodate the details of each type. Takes a little getting used to
for an old user, but works very well.

Sure doesn't seem to like changes in transactions, though - end up
having to delete the transaction and do it over...

I have made changes to transactions very easily. What makes you have to
delete them and start over?

Seems to happen mostly on transfers, just trying to change the date or
whatever, but it winds up being easier to start over. Sorry, I don't
have specific examples at the moment, will try to remember to write
down the circumstances next time it happens.

Although I don't like the 1 line display in the Investment transaction
display now, the entering is not the problem. The BIG problem I have
is the way it handles new securities especially ones without quotable
symbols like equity options etc..

In Q2003 or earlier, after you enter the security a new security
window opened and lets you put in all info. Now, you can select manual
input BUT only a few items are there. You can NOT select manually
entered security types ; Only the built in types. (I like Option Puts,
Option Calls, etc...) Also, you can't put in the Investment goal on
that screen (Investment, Retirement, etc..) Then, when you do an
online update, it grabs the non-quotable symbol from your broker so
the nexct time you do a 1 step update, it tells you the symbol can not
get the quote and halts the one stop update until you acknowledge the
message. In the old version it was all done when entered, this version
requires you to enter it, edit the security seperately, go online, and
then re-edit: Not exactly progress.

Yep, that one's really annoying.

There are some types that when changed to Income/Dividend give you a Quicken message
that you must delete the original transaction first to make this transaction show up
as a Dividend. While others are changed easily.
