Re-investing capital gains

    If we sell stock from one company and purchase stock in another with the same net amount received ($5000 from selling, $5000 to purchase) will we still be taxed?

    Lacking information. But generally yes if you have gain, it is taxable. Stock of different companies generally does not qualify for 1031.

    As said by DRMDCPA you will be taxed only if you gain some profits. Other things, well you gotta give some details
