I just reinstalled XP followed by Money (Version 14.0.120.730). I've copied
my money file (and its HDD backup) back into my documents but now Money can't
open them.

First Money says its going to convert them so they can be used with this
version (which is odd as they where made with it) then I get an error message
saying the file is not readable. Restoring the backup seems to work but
doesn't actually create anything.

I wondered if the problem was similar to Begra's ('Money created with
different version of money' below)

Either open the sample.mny file in your install folder, or let
Money 2005 create a new Money file, clicking Decline in the
process. It will do an update. Close Money. Then open Money and
check that Help->About... says you then have version 14.0.120.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.
