USA Regarding Stocks

My Father past away a year ago. My sister and I found out he had stocks in our name When he worked for Bell system back in the 70's. When I tried to contact the company they said they have no record of it under his social security number. They where looking for a specific number which was not on the paper I have. Is there anyway I can find out if the stocks actually exsist.

If you have the stock certificate numbers this should be easy. Lacking those makes this a whole lot tougher. One place to look is your state's unclaimed property website as the state may now have the shares. Other than that, it now depends on how diligent of a search is performed by the people you contact.
