Register transactions do not appear as choices during reconcile

I'm using Quicken 2002 Deluxe. After I download credit card transactions
Quicken usually matches them with the correct corresponding transaction in
my ledger. There are occasional glitches when multiple transactions have
the same amount, but that is to be expected.

Once in a while I run into a transaction that is already in my register, but
Quicken does not recognize that it matches one of the downloaded
transactions. If I try a 'manual match' the transaction I want to connect
to the downloaded transaction sometimes does not even appear in the list of
transactions for the 'manual match'. This can happen even though the dates
and amounts match exactly.

Does anybody have an experience with a similar problem and/or know a
solution?

Thanks,
Sir Osler

The only time I've seen that is if the transaction in the register was
somehow already Reconciled; or of course if it didn't already exist in
the register at all.

I've noticed this as well on occasion. From what I can see it happens when
I decide to copy and paste a previous transaction. The transaction I've
pasted is the one that won't match.

I don't paste transactions often enough to amount to anything. Or rather, I
don't explicitly paste the transactions. Most of the time when I've had a
problem it involved a transaction that was a transfer to/from another
account where the transaction was entered as a memorized transaction on the
other account. Either way it looks like Intuit still has some work to do
getting the 'easy reconciliation' process cleaned up.
