Rejection notices

Dick Adams

Everyone who has ever submitted to misc.legal.moderated knows
how easy it is to get a rejection notice from them. On the
other hand I attempt to post everything that is acceptable.
Partly because that's how I think it should be done and
partly because I never set up anything to auto-issue notices.

Top posting is a royal PITA because my software hiccups when
it encounters one. Now that I am working one-handed, it is
even more aggravating. I hope it stops before I start
deleting.

I don't see anything wrong with, if possible, having a bot
send it back with a note saying that top-posts are not
acceptable and asking them to resubmit in the proper form.
You'll be doing a favor to other groups as well as this one.

While your at it... How do you feel about posts that
comment on a thread but do not include a quote or
attribution of what or who the poster is referring to.

If one isn't paying close attention to the thread, or
remembers what had been posted, it is often difficult to
figure out just what or who the poster is answering.

Such posts used to be rather rare, but for some reason,
non-quoted, non-attributed posts seem to be showing up more
and more (throughout usenet -- not just this group).

After top-posting, this is becoming my biggest peeve.

I think it's mostly people who read the group through
google. When you hit "reply" you get a screen for making a
response, but it doesn't quote the prior post.

In order to include the prior post in google, you have to
first hit "show options" and then "reply."

I have also noticed this. It isn't so bad if the posts
thread properly but it appears some people hit reply to the
initial post but are really replying to a reply. When both
happen it is very difficult to tell what they are commenting
on.
