Remotely press connect on HQ Client

D

Daniel

I am trying to figure out a way that we could drop a worksheet and then
press the connect button at a given store without actually having to
remote desktop into that store server. I have designed a way to drop
worksheets from a web interface but, it would be even better if I could
then have the store connect.

Your help is greatly appreciated,
Dan

Would you share a little on how you are creating worksheets from the web
interface?

Just through SQL scripts directly to the worksheet and worksheetstore
tables.

Basically I run some sales comparison queries between the store and HQ
for a given date and if their is a difference then I create a worksheet
to upload sales for that date.

Did you ever get a response to this? I really want to just connect
every couple of hours, but I need a way from HQ to force HQ Client to
initiate a connection. I do not want to use a remote access solution,
and I do not want to interrupt the cashier.

I have a program that can execute a command on a remote computer, but
I do not think there is an HQCLIENT.exe command line argument to
connect immediately. In fact, if you try to run HQCLIENT.exe, the
cashier will get a message that HQCLIENT is already running.

There must be a way to do this. I don't want to give up too easily...

how familiar are you with programming? You could write a program on the HQ
client computer and have it use Windows APIs to set the current window to be
the HQ client, then hit the F5 key to connect to the server. This program
could be controlled by the command line to run.

Not at all. I'm pretty crafty, though. What software is required to create
APIs?

You wouldn't be creating APIs, you would be utilizing the ones provided by
Windows itself. Windows APIs are pretty much functions you can call (in a
programming environment) to do a task specific to the operating system such
as move the cursor, press a key, set a window as the active one, etc. You can
read up on this yourself by looking through the Microsoft knowledge base at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc433218(VS.85).aspx
also, here is an explanation on Windows APIs.

I'm actually the tech person for a business who uses RMS, not a Microsoft
partner, so if you'd want any more help getting this program written
yourself, or are interested in having me write a program to do this for you,
just email me at c.lukasoft at gmail.com
