rental deduction

A brief google search fails to answer this question and my taxes for
morons book makes no definitive mention. I rent an apartment. Is this
expense tax deductible for federal 04. I think not unless it used for
business. The ex-wife claims rent is deductible. I haven't gotten
around to state taxes, is she perhaps confusing state vs federal
deductions. Thanks for any help.

Not for your personal taxes.

If however, you have a qualifying home office in that apartment, part of
your expenses may be deductible against your business profits, or taken to
2106 and then Schedule C.

You think right.

Some states have a renters credit, some do not.
