Restoring Sage Line 50 v12 backup into v11

I'm running Line 50 v11 and have been handed a backup from v12. I can
create a new company and restore the backup, but then when I try to
login, it says I've used an incorrect password. The user says his
login is manager, and password is black (sounds familiar), so I'm
guessing that this is because I'm trying to restore a later version.

Other than divvying up for yet another new version of Sage; can anyone
suggest how I might get round this?

"Thanks". He says it can't be done - I have to upgrade to v12. But
then, he would say that, wouldn't he?
