Running Processes after Program Shutdown

When trying to do a nightly backup of my Money 2004 files to an
external hard drive, I close down Money before starting the backup.
However, the backup program says that the file is open and can't back
    it up.

What else might I need to close down in order to allow the files to be
    available for backup?

The problem started when I initiated automatic account updates during
the day using a .Net passport. I suspect that there is something in the
background running even after I shut down Money.

I see a mnyschdll.exe process running even after Money is shut down.
Should that process be shut down to release the file? If so, can it
just be terminated in task manager or is there a better/cleaner way to
do that. Or should I be doing something else.

    Thanks.

    You could kill that process.

    You could disable background banking.

You could be having your backup program copy off the .mbf file
    instead of the *.mny file.

You could have your scheduler make a copy of the .mny file and let
your backup program copy the copy. You can
"copy DennyP.mny DennyP5.mny" even tho Money is open.

I also have the same problem and I tried turning off the backup facility but it didn't cure the problem.

My problem seemed to start about the same time, about a year ago, as Microsoft turned off their support for Money. I get the message 'This operation cannot be performed.' which I can clear from Task Manager by removing 'mmoney.exe' from the list, but it's getting to be a pain.

I have also noticed that under Portfolio Manager my shares update as normal but I have four investment funds that stopped updating at the same time as Microsoft pulled the plug.

I should point out that I'm using the 1105 patch version of Money that was downloaded from the Microsoft Money Help & Information Pages.
