Is there a reason noone wants to try to continue this group? Most usenet
severs including news.eternal-september.com mirror the group and should
continue to propagate it even after micro$oft removes it from its server. I
will check tomorrow to see if access to the group continues to function, but
if it does I would hope that some of the regulars would be willing to keep
alive the real NNTP Money group.

I'm planning on sticking around.

I don't know if other servers will drop the group or not. I don't
know if Microsoft will broadcast an NNTP Rmgroup command, and I
don't know if most servers would follow it.
http://www.winvistatips.com/reminder-microsoft-responds-evolution-community-t822091p2.html
discusses that.

Here's what I do know:

msnews.microsoft.com has a pretty good track record for availability and
spam removal.

Fewer and fewer users have access to ISP-included Usenet with each month
that passes.

Next to no new folks find their way to Usenet.

Many of those people were getting here through the Forums interface and this
group will disappear from there in favor of the Communities interface.

So, basically, I'm not planning to chase this group from news server to news
server. Maybe I should be? email me with the business case...

True, but so far the amount of spam (as noted before it has been removed)
seems pretty managable, but I certainly can't guarantee that that will
continue.

Yes, but news.eternal-september.org is available free to anyone with an
internet connection and is extremely reliable. And there are a number of
other free services such as nntp.aioe.org .

Not sure this is true. There is always access (and seaching) through google
groups. So people should find us.

Unfortunately true.

I don't have a business case, but I do think you should try it for a while
to see how the nntp group holds up . After all you have maintained two
versions of Money simultaneously (or Money and another product) to compare
products and that has to be a lot more work than a one or two click access
to a potentially useful NNTP Money group. And if you use eternal-september
most likely you won't have to do any more chasing. They don't seem to be
going away anytime soon (although they did change their name a year ago).

Hope you decide to stay for a while. Someone already needs your help here
with a mortgage question.

The group will probably go away from the msnews.microsoft.com
server. That server may go away. You may want to search for eternal
september mozarilla for discussions of free NNTP text server
alternatives.

See this URL for the HTTP forum group:

Other groups have been relentlessly disappearing from msnews.microsoft.com.
I'm guessing microsoft.public.money will join them any day now.
