self employed or not....

Hey folks, I wonder if anyone can help me. I currently work in a
butchers shop, and I have been asked to set up and run a website for
them. I get paid by the hour in the shop, and I have to invoice them
for the costs incurred and my time for the website. Should I register,
or is there any benefit to me registering as self employed for the
work on the website. I will be earning approximately £2500 a year
through the website and about the same in the shop. Any advice or tips
will be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Michael

For the exact answer you could ring the inland revnue and ask them for
their verdict. :)

Good advice - and I suggest you might also tactfully raise the question
with the butcher: if they think you are self-employed they won't include
the payments in your pay (for NIC as well as tax purposes) when they
make their return to HMRC. Even though you are probably below the
PAYE/NIC threshold come what may, they ought to have thought about it.
