sign off for a week

Just a quickie.

If someone on JSA has to sign off for a week or so due to a trip abroad.

Q Does that reset the claim? I.E. do any time sanctions still apply?

Signing off then reclaiming doesn't wipe the slate. In most
circumstances sanctions will still apply.

Thanks for the reply - you say "In most circumstances", so, I guess there
are some don't follow through to a new claim.

Is it that a week is a short time, is there a defined period when a new
claim for JSA is a whole new claim?

Unsure right now - *Disclaimer* "my post may contain nuts"

Offhand ... if I remember correctly - the max for a sanction is 6
months so whatever portion of the sanction remains will be applied
when / if you reclaim. This period includes your non-claim so for
instance - if you had a long sanction - and it had 4 months left and
you signed off for two months then only the remaining two months (up
to the original end date) would be applied to your new claim.

But - that's only a very rough guide and I can't remember other claim
linking roolz 'n' regs so you'd be better off talking details with
your local JC or JC+.

I think one is unlikely to attract a six-month sacntion for simply being
aunavailable for work for 1 week.

That is not what my example was trying to show. You asked whether a
claim would be 'reset' - I assumed you meant by having the slate wiped
clean and any previous sanctions being forgotten about.

Read the reply again. Please let me know which part does not answer
your question if I have understood you correctly.

But why not ask at your JC+? They will be happy to explain.
