SQL Server Issues Error# -2147467259

I have 1 machine on our network is running Win 98 to
accomadate our printer/copier. The rest are XP Pro. We
had a problem where the network locked up and had to
reboot to get up and running again. But now I cannot
connect the Win 98 machine to the database through
administrator. I have tried uninstalling and re-
installing RMs to no avail. The error I receive in the
admin is: Error# -2147467259 [DBNETLIB][CONNECTIONOPEN
(CONNECT())] SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied.
Help.

I don't know if it will fix your problem, but have you tried typing the IP
address of the SQL server where you try to connect instead of the server
name itself?

This type of errors is almost always a communication protocol problem.

Hope it helps,
Sylvain

I read somewhere on microsoft.com that mixing win 98 and xp with SQL server
is a no no. I tried searching on customersource and found this Knowledge
Base article (#872236) but i don't think this may be specific to your issue.
see if it helps though:
https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;872236

also try these:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296444
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823659

or maybe try searching for incompatibilities with win 98 and xp with SQL?
Hopefully it's not the issue but it could be...

I think you may be referring to a protocol issue. If my memory serves me,
With Windows 98 accessing SQL on Win 2000 or higher, the Windows 98 machine
must use the mulitprotocol network library.

Tony - try using the Client Network Utility on the Windows 98 machine and
add mulitprotocol to the enabled protocol types.
