Standard Deduction....

I'm trying to my taxes myself for the first time and I wanted to know what the standard deduction was. I am single with no dependants and make less than 20K a year. Are there any websites out there that will help people learn to file on their own.

"You all have by you a large treasure of divine knowledge, in that you have the Bible in your hands; therefore be not contented in possessing but little of this treasure. God hath spoken much to you in the Scripture; labor to understand as much of what he saith as you can. God hath made you all reasonable creatures; therefore let not the noble faculty of reason or understanding lie neglected. Content not yourselves with...divine truth...you accidentally gain in conversation; but let it be very much your business to search for it, and that with the same diligence and labor with which men are wont to dig in mines of silver and gold." - Jonathan Edwards

Your standard deduction for 2003 since you are single is $4,750. You should probably get a Form 1040EZ and read and complete each line in it that applies to your situation. It will allow for your personal exemption of $3,050 and the $4,750 standard deduction I mentioned earlier. You can get this form and the instructions for it at http://www.irs.gov. Good luck.

I would be curious how this is working. Anyone know someone who has tried
it, and what the positives and negatives are?
