Hey all -

I recently started a new job and this was one of the questions that came up in my registration. It popped up on the screen as something along the lines:

Based on which of the two do you want [your tax amount to be calculated on]?
1.) Federal w2
2.) State w2

This is the first time that I got "hit" with this question actually, and frankly I couldn't really ask my manager because he wouldn't know. This sort of thing just isn't his cup of tea. Anyway, I live in NJ but went with option 1 (to use Federal w2).

Any guess as to whether I made the right choice? I'm an hourly employee. What would be the process to toggling between the options if I needed to? I'm sure I wouldn't be the first.

Most likely the system was asking if you wanted to claim the same number of exemptions for FED and state purposes. Best course is for you to go ask your payroll person what you actually selected and then see if that is indeed what you wanted to do
