Taking up Accountancy

Shaun Palmer

Thanks for the replies to my previous post.

I have a HND and not a degree and have been a software engineer for the last
13 years
and thinking about a career change into accountancy as it seems software
development
is heading east to India & China.

I have looked at AAT, ACCA, ACA, CIMA and it seems the best fit for me is
the ACCA.

I am hoping to start using distance learning to syudy 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3 and try
for the
exams at Christmas.

There is a strong possibility that I could be made redundant from my
Software job at
Christmas (ho ho ho).

My questins are :

Does ACCA seem the right path ?

Does it have any limitations ?

What are the possibilities for a 33 year old ex software engineer is getting
a job in
accountancy with ACCA foundation for example, in a provincial practice (I
live in
Wiltshire and don't really want to move, and also like the idea of varied
work and
not too bothered about big salaries, i.e. I value satisfaction and location
over money) ?

What sort of position would I get and what would be the expected pay ?

Thanks,

Shaun

Before too long Accountancy will be going that way too...anything that can
be done via the internet might get done in a country where the labour cost
is that much cheaper.
