tax vs. audit

I am an accounting student. I will have to decide to choose either tax
or audit as my major. Could you please give me some suggestion? I was
wondering which major could help me more easily find a job. In other
words, which major is more desirable in current job market. Of course,
this is not the only consideration in my decision. But it is very
important to me, unfortunately.

It is probably easier finding high level jobs in audit, but tax jobs generally
pay more.

As a third year accounting student myself (although it has taken me many
years to get here) the question you need to ask yourself is what type of
accounting you're more interested. Industrialization, corporations, public
firms...Do you like taxes, do you prefer cost accounting, do you like
financial analysis? YOU need to decide what type of environment you want to
work. Then you will decide which venue you should take. I am planning for my
CPA with a MAcc in taxation and minoring in finance.

I think there are more jobs in audit but you will be have both tax and
accounting courses so you should be qualified for any professional entry
level position in a CPA firm.
