USA Traditional vs Online Degree

I would like to pursue a degree in accounting. I was just wondering how an online degree is viewed vs a traditional classroom degree.

In a major business magazine, a writer opined that college is not about education. It is about opening doors to a good job. So the traditional colleges have only so many spots which are seen as scarce and thus valuable. The online school is not scarce and thus less valuable.
For my opinion, I think that most employers still will value a traditional education more highly. I think that outlook will take decades to change.
