Trouble transferring to another PC

Using Quicken 2012. Cannot transfer files to another PC. When backing up, I only get QDATA files. Importing into the other PC, I'm asked for QIF files. Cannot import QDATA files are too long; I get a message that they exceed 206 characters..
How can I import into another PC?

On the original computer, in Quicken:
Choose File > Backup and Restore > Backup Quicken File and give the path to an external source, such as USB drive.

On the target computer:
Connect the USB drive
Choose File > Backup and Restore > Restore from Backup, and select the file you want, and click OK.

If you are getting an error message of character length in this process, rename your data file to a file name 8 letters or less (no special characters & not ending with a number) For this go to File > File Operations > Rename. After that try the backup and restore again.
