Unable to add new funds to money

I have a problem in that I cannot add a new fund to Money in my primary
money file.
I get to the last screeen in the add fund wizard (titled 'what is the
symbol') but pressing the 'finish' button does nothing - just keeps the
dialog on screen. I have about 30 funds in the file (although I've not
counted them if this is critical).

I can add a new fund eaily if I create a new money file.

I converted from Quicken XG to Money 2005 (v 14.0.120.1105) about 3 months
ago and this is the first new fund I have tried to add.

My file also behaves strangely in other ways. eg my home page has no content
in the main frame and the 'customise content or layout' link does nothing.
If I create a new data file, the home page works as it should do. (I can
live with the home page but quote it to give more information).

Also, if I go to Investment Details for a given stock I get the error "This
operation cannot be performed". This also works fine if I create a new data
file

It seems therefore that the problem lies within my data file rather than
with my particular installation.
My data file is 22Mb which other posts suggest is not the issue.

I have tried the Standard File Repair within Money to no avail.
I have also tried the Archive function to see if I can effectively copy out
the transactions into another data file but get the same problem.

The best option I can see at the moment is to use the QIF export to extract
data on an account by account basis but as this doesn't include account
transfers and I have 15 years worth of data spread across 50 accounts of one
form or another it will be a massive manual and error-prone job.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Brian, I think the QIF export may be the solution here. However, before
you go that route, check around the system for the use of 'Pound' currency
instead of British Pounds. That can cause a lot of issues (see
http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/38.aspx)

I certainly wouldn't like to do the QIF solution with that amount of
accounts.... but some of the effects you mention, oi have heard about due to
Quicken conversions in the past, so would agree it's file related rather
than installation.

I've reset all the accounts to British Pounds and changed the base currency.
I couldn't find how to delete the pound currency. I still have the problem
however. How do you delete the currency ?

If I go down the QIF export route is there a way that I can get the
inter-account transfers to come across or would I have to enter them
manually?

To delete the currency, you'd need to go to tools->settings->program
settings and then press the currency button. Once you've managed to delete
the currency, it may be worth running through the repair options again.

If you have to go QIF, then transfers should come in (although transfers
between different currency accounts will need manual work)

If I create all the account names beforehand I believe all the interaaccount
transfers will come across although they come across twice. Importing one of
the files results in an entry being made in both accounts, one for debit,
one for credit. Importing the other results in a duplication of the
transaction.

Does anyone know of a way around this or do I just have to go through and
manually delete the second occurrence of each and every transation?

When you did the import of the QIF files, did you import them all at
once (using Ctrl+<click> to select the files)?

If not, restore the new file to a point before you did the QIF
import, and re-import all at once. The transfers should get detected
as such in that case.

Cal,
thanks for that. I'd tried to multi-select on the export but never thought
to try on the import.
very much appreciated and will I believe save me at least a couple of hours
and doubtless many mistakes.

Much appreciated..

You should normally see a bit more ifnormation on that window, listing the
countries on the left. I guess there's an issue with the Quicken import
here.

I noticed in another thread you were mentioning about the import of all
accounts from QIF - I think that is a sensible way to go here, as a new file
would eliminate this currency issue, which i am not sure how you can solve
if you don't have the delete option!
