Unable to open a file in Microsoft Money

I use the latest UK version of Microsoft Money. I have two files that I use
“file A†and “file Bâ€. I am still able to sign in to and use “file B†but I
have some problems with “file Aâ€

When I try to sign in to “file Aâ€, I get the following message:
“The email address or password is incorrect. Please try again.â€

I click ok and then re-enter my password (which I know is right as I tried
it on Windows live and my email) and click sign in again to receive the
following error message:

“Money has detected that you did not close the file “file A†before exiting.
Money now needs to verify the information in your file. If your file is
large, this may take a few minutes. Do you want to do this now? If you click
No, you will need to open a different money file.â€

Whether I click yes or no to this (I have tried both on different
occasions), I get the previous error message: “The email address or password
is incorrect. Please try again.â€

The whole process repeats again and again.

If I enter the password, tick the “work offline†and then click next, I get
the message: “The email address or password is incorrect. Please try again.â€
If I enter the password and click next again the same message about the
password comes again.

This file is very important to me and I can’t afford to lose it. Can any one
help me out here?
Thanks in advance.

Keep extra copies of the latest backups and the Money file.

See if you can do File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2
on File A to try to make a repaired version of File A.

You could also consider File->Restore of a suitable backup of File
A. If you have no suitable backup, reconsider your backup policies.

Also, you might consider removing the Passport/LiveID on your files
unless you are using a feature that requires it.

Dear Cal,
Thanks for the reply.
I do use back ups of all my files both on the hard disk and floppy. However,
when I try to restore that, I still get the same message about the email
address and password.

The only options in "file" for me are "new, open, restore back ups, 1. file
A, 2. file B and close". I don't see an option for "repair money file".

How can I remove the Passport/LiveID on my files?

Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance.

You could open File B, and then invoke
File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2
to work on File A to try to make a repaired version of File A.

You probably have salv.exe on your computer at
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles"

You could also use the "Run the Standard File Repair utility in
Microsoft Money 2000, in Microsoft Money 2001, in Microsoft Money
2002, or in Microsoft Money 2003" method from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466
How can I remove the Passport/LiveID on my files?
On the one you can open, if you want to remove the Passport from a
file you may have to turn off background banking at
Tools->Settings->AccessYourMoneyDataOnTheWeb, and then at
File->PasswordManager you can choose to remove your Passport.

Agggg. I am experiencing the identical problem. Using Money I am now in
hour 5 and my second glass of wine trying like heck to solve it.

I can open file a and file b fine. But when I open file c, I get the
identical message as to this poster. I tried to run the repair exe file but
it said that the file was password protected. I typed my password It said
it was wrong.

I have been all over microsoft support. I'm using trial version so I could
test and see how things went before purchasing. Funny, I was getting ready to
purchase today.

I do have a back-up. This is a hugely critical file. Oh, sigh.

We need some information about versions of Money that you are using. What
version was used to create the .mny file; what version is the trial. Best
place to get this is from Help > About
