Using Inventory to track items given away, not sold

I'm a publisher, just starting to use QB for my accounting. I'm using it to
track inventory of books I'm selling, but often, I give books away to
reviewers, etc. How can I track these inventory items without labelling them
as sales? If they are recorded as sales, my income is off. I've tried
creating an invoice, then applying a 100% credit, but in my summary reports
those giveaways are still reading as sales.

Thanks much,

Susan

You can 1: Sell them for zero dollars or 2: Use the qty adjustment feature.
