Wall Street keeps an eye on Amazon's sales tax hit

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc's unfamiliar role as tax
collector may have dented its crucial holiday quarter by reducing the
online retail giant's longstanding price advantage over its rivals in
several major markets.

Amazon's fourth-quarter results - due on January 29 - should provide
clues as to whether U.S. consumers changed their shopping habits when
faced with higher taxes on their purchases.

There is no need to wait for January 29 ER to find out what to
do, since the Street already know what they'll do, and will easily use
or cook up whatever pretexts as cover for the pre-destined price
outcome.

But investors don't have to wait till Jan. 29 to read the
coming specious advice and explanations. Nor do they need to wait to
find out where the future highs and lows will be because it'll be too
late and because they are available now.
