What happens when a stock is renamed?

Hello,
I currently download portfolio information from my Etrade brokerage acct.
into Money 2002. I've noticed when a stock is renamed (i.e., AOL to TWX),
shares of the new stock (TWX) are added to my portfolio, creating a double
entry. However, what I really want is for the AOL entry to be *renamed* to
TWX. I know I can always delete the AOL investment from the portfolio, but I
want to retain the transaction history so I can calculate cost basis when I
sell.
I've tried to do "See Details" -> "Rename", but it complains that TWX is
the symbol for an existing stock, and won't let me change the AOL investment
to a TWX one.

Help?

Thanks,
Parag

You'll need to go to a time before the TWX code was created, and go to the
details of the AOL stock, and change the symbol there. Alternatively, with
the file you are using, remove the TWX stock and rename the symbol of the
AOL stock from AOL to TWX. If you remove the TWX stock, your double entry
disappears, but you must delete it to be able to use the symbol.

Go to the details of the "new" stock and remove the symbol. Rename
this stock to something like zzz1.

Go to the transactions for zzz1 and change each to a transaction for
the "old" AOL. You can conveniently access the transactions from the
investment details area by clicking on "Investment Activities' in
the left column of the Money window.

When all transactions for zzz1 have been changed, click Details.
There should be an option to "Delete this investment" on the left.
Click it.

Now go to the Details for AOL. Change the symbol to TWX, and Rename
to Time Warner or whatever.
