USA When do I record depreciation on cash basis?

I have a rent-to-own business. When I purchase merchandise that the customer leases, I record it on my balance sheet as an asset. I am on a cash basis. My question is, does it matter when I record the depreciation? Can I do this every month? Or, do I record the depreciation at the end of each year?
